The Canongate Burns
Published in Hardcover by Canongate Books (07 October, 2001)
Authors: Andrew Noble, Patrick Scott Hogg, and Robert Burns
Average review score:

Excellent work
This is an excellent compilation of Burns' work, including many poems that were previously unpublished, unpublished in English language compilations or published under Burns' pseudonyms. The annotations, translations, and commentary are both helpful in understanding and interpreting this evocative and beautiful cornerstone of modern Scottish culture

The Most Comprehensive and Best Annotated Edition Available.
There are of course many editions of Burns's poetry available, but sadly most mass-market editions seem more concerned with perpetuating some kind of twee, Brigadoony version of Burns and Scotland. Of the ostensibly scholarly paperback editions of Burns, however, I have not seen anything that comes close to Andrew Noble and Patrick Scott Hogg's for comprehensiveness, annotation, and context. Noble's introduction is brilliant and takes great care to rehabilitate Burns's image by taking him out of the hands of St. Andrew's Society sentimentality and resituating the poet in the political and social climate of his time. Burns was politically radical, sexually promiscuous, and intellectually engaged...all qualities that are effaced by the defanged, Burns supper bardie image that has been so popular with many Scots and Scottish-Americans alike. If you're seriously interested in Burns as a man and a poet, this is the edition you should own. If you want something to dust off once a year on January 25th (along with your kilt, sporran, and bagpipes), go buy one of the editions with the tartan cover.

Cartesian Psychology and Physical Minds : Individualism and the Science of the Mind
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (June, 1995)
Author: Robert Andrew Wilson
Average review score:

This book provides a lucid and incisive summary of issues
The issue of individualism in the philosophy of psychology is related to the larger question of the place of individualism as a viable construct in any scientific account of beliefs, desires and other curiosities of folk psychology. While Wilson's focus on this book is part of an attempt to come to grips with the status of folk psychology and a scientific account of mind as a whole, the book has earned its place as a valuable text for anyone interested in a clear rendering of the issues involved.

Rob Wilson is a dynamic educator.
I have read large sections of this book when I had Rob Wilson as a professor. The text is clear and concise and I recommend it to anyone interested in Individualism.

Cats: The Songs from the Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (June, 1981)
Authors: Webber and Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation
Average review score:

It's all here...
Okay, so I wasn't a big CATS fan. I have never seen the show, but have heard the music from CDs. I must say the music is highly addictive. And it's Andrew Lloyd Webber, so how could you go wrong? This book would be the best book for piano because it contains basically every song. But, I have to warn beginners, it can be extremly hard. Most of the songs jump around between sharps and flats, and when they do it's usually four or five at a time! It will take alot of practice to get it down. All the songs are fun to play. It's one of those books where you start at the beginning, and play every song without skipping any. Overall a great buy.

If You Love MUSIC and CATS This Is The Book For You.
Wow! I was amazed how great and useful this book was. It includes 19 songs of Cats Classics. Most every song is written just like Andrew Lloyd Webber did himself. It also includes pictures from various Cats casts through out the years. If you are a theater buff, and enjoy being up on stage, then this is a great audition book. With songs like Memory, Skimbleshanks, Gus:The Theatre Cat, Mr. Mistoffeles, and many others. It will leave you at the piano for hours playing away. When of the best things about this is that it is the COMPLETE book of songs from the musical. I highly recommend this, and I hope you will enjoys this as much as I did.

Cheap Tricks: 100S of Ways You Can Save 1000s of Dollars!
Published in Paperback by Brier Books (March, 1993)
Authors: Andy Dappen and Andrew R. Dappen
Average review score:

Worth its weight in gold.
Andy Dappen has written a book that uses common sense on stretching your hard earned money further than you thought you could get it to go. A must for everyone to read. The chapter on light bulbs alone is worth the price of the book. I sincerely hope they publish it again. I give this book to all new graduates and newlyweds as a gift, and have been thanked profusely for my gift.

This book contains 1000s of ideas, old & new. Most useful.
I have always read every cheapskate book & article I could get my hands on. I thought I had heard of every useful idea there was. Wrong! I had borrowed the book from the library (good cheap idea), but it was so good that now I need to get several for gifts.

Children of the Dragon: The Story of Tiananmen Square
Published in Paperback by Collier Books (June, 1990)
Authors: Human Rights in China, Orville Schell, and Andrew J. Nathan
Average review score:

A Heartrending Story
As an amateur historian, I like to read books about historical events that are to the point, without belaboring details, but that read "like a novel". Children of the Dragon opened my eyes to the Tiananmen Square incident in a big way with personal accounts of many of the Chinese who were actually there and involved in what happened, and with many photos that captured the action and emotion. This book is a must-read for complacent Americans to learn to appreciate their own democracy, and to support those who die to have one. My heart went out to China and those brave, idealistic students who tried to change it.

riveting accounts of massacre from different points of view
This compilation of eye-witness accounts gathered from students, foreign and domestic journalists, professors, PLA men, and workers serves as a memorial for the Tiananment incident, and provides the reader with a minute-by-minute chronology of events. Some of those events are the hunger strike, Gorbachev's visit, student meetings with the leadership, and power struggles within student factions... "Children Of the Dragon" also has printed many of the statements and declarations made by members of student and government factions. This is an excellent, riveting account of the events surrounding the massacre, from Hu Yaobang's death on April 15th to the CCP's crackdown and pursuit of "instigators" through June 5-6.

Christie's Art Deco
Published in Hardcover by Watson-Guptill Pubns (01 September, 2000)
Authors: Fiona Gallagher, Michael Jeffery, Simon Andrews, Micolette White, Christie's International Group, Nicolette White, Manson Christie, and Woods Christie
Average review score:

Captures the dynamic essence of an art style
In 1930, William Van Alen (architect of New York's Chrysler Building) invented his Art Deco design to embody the spirit of his age when art was expected to be higher, faster, and more dynamic than was to be found in any prior age. Superbly illustrated with images drawn from the Christie's archives, and enhanced with commentaries by Michael Jeffery, Simon Andrews, and Nicolette White, Christie's Art Deco is an informative as it is beautiful, complete capturing the dynamic essence of an art style that defined an era with everything from Japanese ceramics to Swiss poster designs to French glass to American architect, and more. Highly recommended for art history students, art deco collectors and connoisseurs, as well as anyone with an eye for enduring beauty, Christie's Art Deco is enriched with collector's tips, a glossary, museum addresses, Christie's addresses, a select bibliography for further study, and a very helpful index.

Wonderful book on Art Deco
Christie's Art Deco, edited by Fiona Gallagher, is an excellent overview of the Art Deco period with highlights of the major designers of each category with innovations in the respective fields of design. It is written in a scholarly narrative text. Categories included are architectural detailing, furniture, glass, ceramics, silver and metalware, jewelry, sculpture, and graphics/posters. It has 192 pages with approximately 120 color photographs and an excellent bibliography given for further research. It is an excellent choice for a wide range of readers with an interest in the decorative arts.

Christmas Music for Guitar
Published in Spiral-bound by A.D.G. Productions (01 August, 1998)
Authors: Allan Alexander and Andrew D. Gordon
Average review score:

My favorite book of Christmas selections! A must have!
I am an intermediate to lower-advanced level classical guitarist. Without a doubt, this is my favorite book of solo Christmas selections. Most of the arrangements in this book are intermediate in difficultly, though one or two (such as Pata Pan) are more challenging. Allan Alexander is an extremely talented composer and arranger, and his arrangements of Christmas selections will not disappoint. The tunes are all familiar. My personal favorites are I Saw Three Ships, The Holly and the Ivy, The Sussex Carol, and What Child is This, though they are all tremendous. I played a couple of these in church during the advent season, and they were extremely well-received. The thing I like best about Allan's stuff are his variations, which are so intelligent! The selections are all extremely accessible, and most addictive. I never get tired of playing his arrangements. Enjoy!

Wonderfully original tunes to play.
Not the usual compilation of Christmas tunes but a delightful departure for anyone wishing some original music for the season. The variations are creative and a joy to play. I enjoyed them all.

A Must-Have For Advertising Enthusiasts
What an outstanding collection of advertising campaigns! A true pictoral history of some of the greatest ad campaigns conceived over the last century.

A must-have for advertising enthusiasts!

20th century advertising at 20th century standards.
This is a very informative, interesting book that includes the best past and present advertising campaigns. From the somewhat 'plain' adverts from the First World War to the more controversial Benetton ads, each company's page includes a brief history of the background to the product and it's ad campaign. Also included are the dates, art directors, copy writers, advertising agencies and country where it was produced to provide a detailed account. The glossy pages contain full colour adverts following through the company's development. The book includes sections on food, drink, fashion, entertainment to name but a few. It is a timeless book that will be kept close to hand at all times.
